The Abbey Coffee, Art & Music Lounge (a ministry of Vintage Faith Church) is providing more than coffee as it heads into new territory to feed starving children in far corners of the world by serving up a warm cup of coffee here in Santa Cruz. There are 1.4 billion people in the world living in extreme poverty; that's 1.4 billion people living on less than $1.25 a day. The Abbey aims to use profits earned through coffee and product sales to purchase much needed food for poverty-stricken children in the third world. This philanthropic initiative is called "Give Hope."
The Abbey's Give Hope campaign has been a conversation among its founders since the Abbey launched in 2008 and is now finally coming to life. The concept is simple: each time a customer orders a Give Hope designated product, they will also be buying a starving child a meal - it's that simple!
The Abbey has partnered with a credible not-for-profit organization called Feed My Starving Children who have been hard at work since 1994 to end the hunger crisis. They, like the Abbey, believe that sometimes taking a small risk like this can have a huge impact.
The Abbey sees Give Hope as a natural extension of of its mission to be more than just a coffee shop by offering the local community an opportunity to be part of the bigger story of serving the global community. The Abbey knows that one small organization may not be able to change the world, but if lots of good-hearted people and small organizations come together, anything is possible.
