Leadership Values

In the early church, there was a specific, organized structure of leadership.  This leadership structure was created for smaller gatherings of believers who met primarily in homes, as that was the way the New Testament church started out.  Key leaders called “apostles” would appoint several specific leaders for each church of 30-60 people.  This intentional organization was essential for the church, which was and is a growing and vibrant divine reflection of God.

Today’s expression of leadership in the church has the same heart and mission as it did in New Testament times.  However, the church today has multi-faceted expressions and therefore, the leadership structures vary from one to another. Vintage Faith is a growing church, much larger than a single house church.  Its leadership structure is designed to match the complexities of a larger faith community and reflect the specific context and mission we have, while at the same time remain faithful to what the Bible teaches regarding leadership in the church. 

Furthermore, in today’s culture, the term “pastor” has a variety of definitions.  In the context of Vintage Faith Church, there are leaders in our congregation, both paid and non-paid, who serve as “pastors” in the way the Scriptures describe this term.  We use the term "pastor," along with “director,” to communicate and clarify roles for the overall leadership of the church. We also use those terms to make it easier for the community to know who to direct communication toward when they have questions or comments or need to talk.

Leadership Structure

In listing "leaders" for a church on a web page like this, it is actually difficult to simply have a limited list of staff leadership when there are so many people in the Vintage Faith Church community who are not on "paid staff" but are serving in very critical roles, with major responsibility in the church.  Philosophically, we are striving to develop a culture where the majority of paid staff of Vintage Faith Church focuses their time on supporting and training those in the church for the work of the ministry
(Ephesians 4:11-12).

In addition to staff, there are people in the church who serve as Ministry Team Leaders, overseeing major areas of ministry. There are also people who serve on the teams themselves.  These leaders play a crucial role in what happens each week in the life of the church, with many of the Team Leaders serving in equipping roles, just like a paid staff person would.  Through this site, we will continue to highlight these incredibly gifted and passionate leaders and the ministries they lead.

We also have a Leadership Council made up of 9 men and women who oversee the vision and mission of the church.

Our staff is currently made up of the following people, who serve in both part-time and full-time roles:

Abigail Bishop

Worship Gathering Coordinator

Abigail serves as the hub of all things Sunday worship gathering, helping to coordinate the band, speakers, creative elements, and all the millions of details that go along with them. She is passionate about efficiency, creativity, being on time, authenticity and kingdom-living... a beautifully unique combination. (email Abigail, abigail@vintagechurch.org)

Amy Bootz

Children's Ministry Director (on leave)

Amy oversees the Children’s ministry which includes developing, encouraging and training volunteer leaders, choosing curriculum, and generally loving on all the wonderful children, elementary age and younger, who are part of our community. Dan Kimball

Teaching, Mission, Staff Leadership

Dan’s current role with Vintage Faith Church is overseeing the Sunday
gatherings and teaching, as well as the missional aspects of the church. He serves on the Vintage Faith Church Leadership Council.
Dan's role also includes extending the mission of the church through writing and speaking. He is known to shop eBay in the wee hours of the morning for vintage shirts. (for more on Dan, click here)

Janene Stowers

Director of Facility and Communications

Janene is the hub of all things administrative and facility-based at Vintage Faith, handling day-to-day operations in the office, booking and maintaining the facility (through our amazing custodial team), updating our communications, and generally being the glue that holds things all together. Janene is also passionate about design and architecture, and hails from South Africa. A calm and peaceful presence in the office, Janene helps keeps things going smoothly in the midst of the chaos and fun that is the VFC staff.

Jenny Simoni

Abbey Ministry Manager

Jenny serves as the manager for the Abbey ministry- training and encouraging the staff and running day to day operations. She also has a passion for global missions and is basically one of the most kind people you will ever meet. (for more info on Jenny, click here)

Jesse West

Youth Director, Protege Intern Director

Jesse serves as the Youth Director and Protege Intern Director. He works in connection with jr. high and high school students to build community on a weekly basis. He coordinates the Intern/Directors who help with youth trips, events, and activities to inspire students to point their lives toward the person of Jesus Christ. He also lives among and leads nine interns who are part of our Protege Intern Program. If you ever need, encouragement, Jesse is your man.... as long as you don't mind being addressed as "dude." Josh Fox                      

Music, Staff Leadership

Josh gives oversight to Worship Gatherings & Musical Worship Ministries, is part of leading the overall Mission of Vintage, and serves with the Leadership Council to help to guide larger decisions of the church. Josh leads musical worship in our gatherings on a regular basis and is a semi-regular speaker in our worship gatherings. He is known to laugh, speak, and sing with an exceptionally loud voice. Josh Wilbur

Connections Ministry

Josh W has been a member of VFC since 2006 and is on staff part time to serve the Connections ministries. He works diligently to connect people of all ages at our gatherings by running the Hospitality, Parking and Follow-up ministries. He is also a self employed entrepreneur, web designer and all around creative thinker who keeps extremely

Kristin Jensen

Staff Lead

Kristin leads and gives oversight to a majority of the Vintage Faith
Staff, as well as the volunteer ministry leaders of the Local Justice
& Compassion Ministry and GlobalTeam. She is kind of a
leadership nerd, loves to travel and lives with mild regret about not
studying cultural anthropology. Typefaces are very important to her and though she does not own one, she loves dogs. A lot. (for more info on Kristin, click here)

Lee Purkey

Facility, Prayer and Counseling

Lee has been an integral part of the VFC Community for years and served in a variety of roles. In this season, Lee currently oversees larger facility projects and offers counseling and support for the community through one on one meetings and prayer on Sundays during and after our gatherings (for more on Lee, click here)                          

Lindsey Cooper

Children's Ministry Assistant

Lindsey helps to assist our Children's Ministry Director with all of the important elements that go into loving and teaching the kids of Vintage Faith, assisting in the behind the scene's aspects of the ministry, as well as teaching kids and training volunteers. Currently a student of Occupational Therapy at San Jose State, Lindsey is one of the most joyful and kind people you could ever meet and inspires all who are around her to grow more deeply through reading God's word and spending time with him (email Lindsey, lindsey@vintagechurch.org)

Lisa Cline

Business Manager

Lisa helps to run all aspects of "the business" at Vintage Faith: giving, payroll, insurance, taxes, you know, all that fun stuff. Her attention to detail and natural ability in these areas of business and finance bring a much needed element of organization and structure to our growing church. Lisa, along with her husband and three daughters, are East Coast transplants to the Santa Cruz area. They enjoy the outdoors, good food and volunteer to help lead a Vintage Faith Community Group during the week. (email Lisa, lisa@vintagechurch.org)

Nini Lettner

Director of Community Groups & SoulKitchen

Nini is the driving force behind our Community Group ministry and SoulKitchen: Ministry to Women, helping to develop leadership teams that invite, train, equip and encourage the leaders who essentially pastor our community. A San Jose State graduate, Nini is passionate about people connecting deeply with God and each other, and is gifted with both the organizational and relational skills needed for this important role.
